About the role
New College, Oxford is recruiting a Chef de Partie to prepare and present meals for fellows, students, staff, guests and commercial customers. The role is 40 hours per week across 5 of 7 days, with predominantly straight shifts and alternate weekends off. Salary is £28,778–£33,002 per annum plus a £1,730 per annum Oxford Weighting Allowance. Applicants need Level 2 food-hygiene qualifications or equivalent, broad busy-kitchen brigade experience, allergen knowledge and familiarity with relevant safety practices. What you’ll do
- Prepare, cook and present food promptly and consistently to a high standard while using ingredients economically and efficiently
- Maintain personal hygiene, food hygiene, and health and safety standards
- Work flexibly across all kitchen sections
- Collaborate with chefs, kitchen porters and front-of-house/catering colleagues to support smooth service
- Help ensure equipment is safe and report defects
- Keep kitchen sections tidy and ensure food is in date and stored correctly
- Receive deliveries and ensure their correct storage
- Maintain records required by food-hygiene regulations
- Undertake reasonable tasks requested by designated catering and college managers
What they’re looking for
- 706/1 and 706/2 or equivalent CIEH Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification
- Experience in a busy kitchen as part of an established brigade
- General experience across all sections of a kitchen
- Ability to produce a wide variety of dishes, including vegetarian dishes
- Knowledge of handling food allergies
- Ability to maintain records required by food-hygiene regulations
- Familiarity with COSHH, HACCP and RIDDOR practices
- Ability to receive, store and rotate stock appropriately
- Reliability, trustworthiness and good timekeeping
- Clean and tidy appearance
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform lifting and carrying
